Chevrolet Captiva Car Review in UK
The Chevrolet Captiva makes the perfect choice for those who are looking for a 4x4 with ample amounts of space. It is very practical without being too pricy. But is that all there is to it? Not quite.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find that the Captiva certainly doesn’t scrimp on space. There’s a good amount of space behind the wheel and lots of space for seat adjustment which enable you to easily find a comfortable spot. Visibility is quite excellent despite the fact that the think windscreen pillars might prove to be bit troublesome for some. As we have mentioned earlier, space is the Captiva’s strongest point especially if you go with the seven-seat version.
In other words, the cabin is impressive and there should be plenty of space to move around in. All the rear seats are very easy to fold flat which would turn your boot into a practical load area. Needless to say, if you are taking the Chevrolet Captiva out for a weekend away, you wouldn’t have to worry about not having enough space to put your stuff in.
As for equipment, the kit levels are truly something. The entry level models come with four electric windows, air-conditioning, alloy wheels; an MP3 read CD stereo and a tailgate window which opens separately. The Chevrolet Captiva LT diesel models have larger alloy wheels, self-leveling suspension, and stability programme and part-leather upholstery. On the other hand, the LTX models have leather upholstery, 18-inch alloys, and an eight speaker CD changer that comes with an iPod connection, heated front seats and climate control.
In terms of quality, some of the cabin’s furnishing especially the plastic ones are a reflection of the Captiva’s price tag. However, despite the not so attractive appearance of the plastics, the materials used within the Captiva seem sturdy and solidly built. When it comes to security, there are certain differences between the LT and LS models. The LT models have stability control as well as front and side airbags. The LS models, on the other hand, have two front and curtain airbags, ISOFIX child seat mountings, anti-lock brakes as well as three point seat belts. All models come with alarms and deadlocks.
Of course, the real test of a good vehicle includes more than just having a good looking exterior and interior. The Chevrolet Captiva gives you a choice between petrol and diesel engines. The 2.4 litre petrol version lacks pulling power thus making acceleration quite noisy and an average performance. The 2.0 litre diesel engine, on the other hand, is thought by many to be the better option. It certainly has got more power and is certainly more frugal and flexible.
The ride on the Chevrolet Captiva is a smooth one despite the fact that it can get a bit bumpy on the rougher road surfaces. The handling might not be for everyone, though. The captive also has more lean that it normally should when it comes to corners. Also, there is a bit of road and wind noise that can be heard but both do not go past the acceptable levels.
